Karen brings over 25 years of experience in the classroom and in human services to the training and team building facilitated by Dykstra + Maier Training and Consulting, LLC. Karen uses her innovative teaching techniques and understanding of learning styles to present the material in a way that reaches a variety of participants.
As a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Karen is very passionate about mental health in the world and Mental Health Frist Aid training. Knowing that in our world, the stigma of mental health may keep people from reaching out for help. By sharing this training, her hope is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Karen also has earned the Firefighter/EMS and Public Safety designations for Mental Health Firs Aid, which is the MHFA curriculum with specifics for these audience members.
She has taught Motivational Interviewing for over four years. She believes this method of interviewing and talking with clients allows them to take control of their decisions and follow through.
Karen believes that team building is essential to operating a successful business. The team building activities our company offers, allows team members to work together while having fun.
Karen has earned a Masters of Science in Career and Technical Education form Ferris State University and a Bachelors of Business Management form Davenport College.
Tom has been facilitating team building and public speaking classes for over five years. Working with small and large groups to assist them in learning new skills or creating better communication among teams is his passion. Tom brings his knowledge of understanding group dynamics, the use of teaching to different learning styles, and the ability to create relationships to the training and team building facilitated by Dykstra + Maier Training and Consulting, LLC.
As a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Tom is excited to bring this training to our community. Tom believes by teaching this class, the stigma around mental health can be reduced. Understanding how to approach someone one having a crisis and knowing what to do is vital to reducing this stigma.

Tom’s passion to assist new and existing teams grow strong is shown through the results of the over 200 team building events he has facilitated in the last three years. Tom can help teams grow together and work through obstacles in a productive way. Believing team communication is vital, Tom is an excellent leader in these events.
